As the charismatic host of Rioja Paired, Marti embarks on an unforgettable journey through the diverse landscapes, rich traditions, and extraordinary wines of Rioja.
Hailing from Birmingham, Alabama, Marti’s culinary adventure began in her Southern kitchen, but her passion for food and wine led her to the heart of Spain. Now based in San Sebastián, she has fully immersed herself in Spanish and Basque cuisine, becoming an authority on the flavors that make this region so unique. Her deep connection to Rioja and its vibrant wine culture makes her the perfect guide as we travel through Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa, and Eastern Rioja—each with its own distinct wines, landscapes, and stories.
Marti is an accomplished author and food writer, with two books on Basque cuisine, The Book of Pintxos and Basque Country (also available in Spanish as La Cocina Vasca). Her writing has appeared in renowned publications like Condé Nast, National Geographic Traveller, Food & Wine, The Telegraph, Decanter, and Travel & Leisure. Whether she’s teaching cooking classes, exploring ancient Rioja cellars, or writing for global audiences, Marti’s passion for food, wine, and culture shines through every project.
In addition to her work as a writer and cook, Marti founded the International Society for the Preservation and Enjoyment of Vermut, solidifying her status as a vermouth expert.
